STRESS MANAGEMENT

Everyday of our lives we are bombarded with stressors - situations that have the potential of causing anxiety. But that's all stressors are - "potentials". We create the stress, or distress, which is the more appropriate term, by our own perceptions and labels we attach to the situation.

The events, the challenges, the tough situations will always be there. Some of them you can change, some you really ought to change, and many of them you have absolutely no control over. What you do have control over. however, is YOU.

Stress Management is really YOU management. You can learn to relax, mentally as well as physically. And, most important, you can change the way you feel about yourself. Through the process of Hypnosis, you can bypass conscious limitations and stimulate important learning at the deeper unconscious, creative level where it really counts.

20-MINUTE STRESS BREAK

I created this 15-minute stress break tape in response to requests from students and clients who needed a quick relaxation period they could squeeze in at work, between classes, between appointments or at various other times throughout the day when only a short amount of time was available.

Taking short relaxation breaks frequently throughout the day is one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself.  Most people are familiar with the Sleep-Dream cycle that we all experience during sleep. We sleep for about an hour and a half or so, and then come up to a lighter stage of sleep to dream for 15 to 20 minutes. Then, we go back to deeper sleep for another hour and a half, then up to dream again. This cycle repeats itself throughout the night.

More recent research in mind-body rhythms shows that a similar cycle continues throughout the day as well - this time as an Activity-Rest cycle. When we're awake, we tend to be alert and attentive for about an hour and a half, and then the body and the mind need to rest for 15 to 20 minutes.

This cycle would continue all day long if we were able to accommodate it. But most of us have schedules and demands that would never allow us to take that kind of quiet time every hour and a half. Yet, some is certainly better than none. The more you can do it, the better you feel, and the more efficiently and effectively you'll be able to perform throughout the day.

You'll know when you need that rest. The signals are very clear, once you start paying attention to them. You find yourself daydreaming. It becomes more difficult to concentrate. Your creative juices stop flowing. You find yourself doing mindless activities. Sometimes we call those "pencil sharpening" activities: puttering around doing nothing, organizing and reorganizing your workspace, shuffling papers. Or, you're looking for something to nibble on. That's part of the rhythm too. Or you're just plain tired or tense. These are all messages that you need to take a relaxation break.

This 15-minute stress break tape is designed to help you learn how to do that naturally. The tape guides you into a state of relaxation while giving you positive suggestions for managing the stress in your life. As you learn to relax, you'll receive multiple benefits. The relaxation itself is stress-reducing. And with continued use of the tape, your ability to relax will increase dramatically.
